How can we help?

What should I do if a reviewer demands something in exchange for removing a review?

Demanding money or freebies in exchange for removal or not posting a review is a violation of Yelp’s Content Guidelines and Terms of Service. Yelp is a leader in fighting fake and deceptive reviews, and our proactive and automated systems help identify reviews suggesting possible extortion. Additionally, Yelp monitors for spikes in both positive and negative reviews, investigates influxes of activity, and if the content violates our policies, removes it from the platform.

Bad actors are constantly evolving their tactics, however, and if your business has received an extortion demand, we want to know about it. Yelp takes these issues seriously and investigating your report helps keep the platform fair for everyone.

Do Not Engage or Pay: Do not offer money, goods, freebies or services to the individual—this won’t guarantee removal of the review and may even encourage further attempts.
Gather Evidence: Save all communication and relevant information, as evidence will help Yelp investigate your report.
Report Promptly: Contact our Support team as soon as possible. Provide details and attach any proof of the extortion attempt.

Please only contact our Support Team regarding explicit offers to remove a review for payment or threats to post negative reviews. We won’t get involved if a customer is simply asking for a refund to remedy a bad experience.
